ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
The Thomas & Woods Foundation’s goal is to provide opportunities and quality programs for inner-city youth to participate in athletics, as well as support programs at schools that serve students in the PIAA District 12. We will focus specifically on those student-athletes that are unable to access the athletics and academic resources they need to participate and be successful.
The Thomas & Woods Foundation will leverage a wide variety of resources to obtain private funding, athletic equipment, and apparel, including local colleges/universities, corporations, professional sports teams, and private individuals. We will then use our resources to offer programs and services to at-risk youth, as well as equipment to programs at city schools based on need. The initial schools we will focus on our middle and high schools.
WHY DO WE DO IT
Research has shown that increased student participation in sports leads to better academic success, discipline, self-confidence, social skills, and positive adult role models.
The Thomas & Woods Foundation is dedicated to solving issues of health and wellness among at-risk urban youth by addressing the need for high-quality athletic opportunities and the equipment they require. We believe active student participation in athletics in traditional, as well as non-traditional, academic settings, develop strong teamwork skills, higher self-esteem, disciplined thought, and ultimately lead to greater academic achievement.
Our hope is to help level the playing field and allow all students the opportunity to experience the benefits of athletic achievement.
